Focus on the Future - Building Sustainable Communities

Below is the final copy of the Focus on the Future – Building Sustainable Communities report. This document summarizes the discussions that occurred during the Yukon Council on the Economy and the Environment community conferences.

As the report shows, many people offered valuable insights and input through the community conferences. These conferences would not have been as successful if it were not for participants who contributed their time and thoughts to the discussions. In all, 284 people attended, shared their ideas and provided helpful comment on alternatives to undue reliance on traditional economic sectors.

The intent of these conferences was to foster a better understanding of how Yukoners make their living, where they make their living, and why they live where they do. I believe the conference was very successful at doing this and in generating a stronger appreciation of what our options and choices are for viable and sustainable communities.
